Player Profile: RedArchon

With his face emblazoned on 20-foot screens, amongst other champions such as HuK and Sen -- RedArchon comes back as a potential representative of the SEA region at BlizzCon after finishing first at last year’s regional qualifier.

Race: Terran

Season 2 Rank: 5th (160 – 77)

Early Roots
In person, Thanapol “RedArchon” Kuachart, or RA as he is called by peers, is reticent and soft-spoken, the kind of guy that doesn’t draw attention to himself, nor does anything to command it. Online, however, RA is nothing but the focus of attention, both from fans and rivals looking to take down one of SEA’s best Starcraft II players.
RedArchon began his career in StarCraft: Brood War, where he was considered SEA’s best player for many years. Like many veterans of the Brood War scene, RedArchon eagerly anticipated the release of StarCraft II since its announcement at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Seoul, Korea in 2007.
“I wanted StarCraft II to come out immediately…” RedArchon said. “I was so sad that I needed to wait four years before playing the game.”
Making an Entrance
Once StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty came out, RedArchon wasted no time climbing up the ranks. He was a staple in the weekly Top 200 -- taking the top spot again and again. Many critics pointed to RedArchon’s predictable, repetitive approach to the game, which alternated between specific bio and mech play based on racial matchups and maps. It didn’t matter. RedArchon’s stubborn gameplay was augmented by Brood War-honed macro and mechanics. Opponents may have known what was coming; it didn’t mean they could beat it.
“I am pretty confident about my PvT, but against RedArchon… I just can’t beat him!” Laments fellow SEA Battle.net invitee Ray “nGenLight” Zi, of his PvT nemesis.
BlizzCon Experience
Should he win the SEA regional tournament, RedArchon will be making his second trip to BlizzCon. “My first BlizzCon was my first time in the US… actually my first time flying.” The infrequent flyer was terrified at first, not only with the idea of flying, but with the idea of going to a foreign country and facing an imposing language barrier.
Nevertheless, RedArchon packed his bags and flew to Anaheim, California to compete with the best of the best. He would win against Latin America’s representative, Capoch, but dropped out after subsequent losses to HuK and Fenix.
Despite his limited English, RedArchon’s most memorable experience came from the community dinner organized by the Blizzard eSports team for all BlizzCon participants. As he was reading the menu, he looked up in awe and disbelief. There would be no language barrier here.
“Boxer?” mumbled RedArchon.
Arriving at the table was RedArchon’s idol for close to a decade -- the Terran Emperor himself, Lim Yo Hwan, SlayerS_BoxeR. To this day, the memory of meeting the iconic pro-gamer remains RedArchon’s favorite StarCraft memory.
Winning this year’s BlizzCon may just top that.
