if protoss ever wants to open with air you need to take a third and get some spore crawlers up with additional queens
if you have no scout of protoss base after this you need to plant a hydra den because the protoss can just go all-in with the build, dropping a roach warren at this time is a good idea
you will be on 3 base with hydra roach vs whatever he has (ie void ray 6 gate)
if he tech switches to robo youre gunna want to scout it and get a spire up or push before 2-3 collosus come out, 1 collosus isnt that hard to deal with roach + hydra but when the number masses you have to go into corrupter tech, or get good positionings with neural
corrupters are a good choice though because of brood lord tech that follows.. obviously
hydras and mutas are best for mass void player.
but you need fight far away from cannon or control more marinals.
you can mass some base for larva ready for mass units after you lose your army.
(if you really rich)
other way you must have some bad work befor they have a large wave voids.
By the time he comes with VRs, you'll have Queens + hydras.
I was talking about ending the game where the OP had trouble with mass VRs and cannons on high ground.
Me and my mate played a custom game to test infestors as a counter.
Granted it wasn't a real life test as we both let each other build up critical mas and meet in the center of the map.
However that said i lost all my voids and only managed to take out a couple of infestors.
Fungal seems to work well.
Not sure on the timings though and whether or not you would have enough infestors in time but somebody else might be able to shed more light on this.
I don't have a replay anymore unfortunately, but a dude tried to mass vr's on me off 2 base with massive base defence about a month ago. he did a 3vr push into mass vr's, which is pretty stupid. I held it with 4 queens with transfuse then instead of teching to hydra or infestor I made about 6 more queens and a !@#$tonne of roaches, researched OL drop and speed turned on generate creep, loaded my entire army into the OL's and dropped them into his base.Used the roaches to snipe buildings, the queens to transfuse the other queens and wiped out about 16 void rays using just queens and transfuse. dropped a bunch of tumors in his base an spread that %^-* like crazy while I decimated him from the inside.
Void Rays have the advantage against Corruptors due to the damage bonus against armoured from memory. Corruptor damage is OK, but not really good compared to other units such as Hydralisks, Queens or Mutalisks.
They only beat Phoenixes because of their armour (which makes Phoenix DPS pathetic against them), but they are designed to go against Carriers, Battlecruisers, and especially Colossi.
That said, adding 2-3 to the mix if you plan to go for Brood Lords later wouldn't be too bad as Corruption would accelerate the destruction your other units can cause. I wouldn't specifically to get that ability though, rather as a side bonus.

All mistakes in the above post can be attributed to the fact that I am a noob that sucks at this game.
The best answer for Mass Voidray build is really Hydra but the problem is Voids can just run around the hydras. So whats the answer? Immobilize them. Meaning Infestors. Infestor is the all around unit for zerg. You can mix it up with mutalisks also.
You should think about the DPS capability and Survivability of the unit and which works the best.
Mutalisks arent really good dps units if pitted against the same amount of lets say voidrays. HP and mobility wise they are better than Hydras. With Infestors you can spam fungal growth his voidrays while keeping mutas out of range. With the upcoming patch each fungal will do 40 damage. Voids have 150/100 Hp/Shield. So having 5 Infestors or more than will instantly give you around 200++ damage depending on how many infestors you have. wait for fungal to wear off then send in mutas for the kill. It is also suggested that you upgrade +1 attack if ever you decide to deal the killing blow to his VR army. You are going for higher DPS, not armor.
For Hydralisks, you have to do a number of very important things. 1. Creep spread. 2. Protect overlords. 3. Get that range buff. 4. Get infestors 5. Burrow (i find this critical but maybe optional, really situational.) Ambush the VRs, lure him to attack to a place where you have burrowed units. BUT the moment he gets a robo bay for obs, abandon the hydra plan. Obs leads to Collosi which is not good. Okay so Hydras, not very good at mobility. Straight up glass cannon so your plan for this is. You hit the VRs with Mass Fungal. Then you attack with hydras( this is because to avoid any micro mishaps and let the vrs escape). You take advantage of the immobility not the duration damage. +1 range damage also applies here. DPS not Armor. Plus fungal really helps hydras if VRs are accompanied by zealots.
same thing happened to me :|
mass voids are a pain, I had about 20 hydralisks being supported by spore cannons and the void ray ball still ripped them to shreds. Didnt help that there were about two or three carriers behind him. My lings and roaches stood there and watched the shiny lights :) should've just charged into his base when I had the chance :| I thought my hydras could hold.
Oh well lesson learned
NOTE TO SELF: Infestor FG, MORE hydras, Mutas or DONT LET HIM MASS THOSE DAMN VOID RAYS

Why would you push into a 2 base protosses base especially if he is going mass void ray?
Generally it is a bad idea to play aggresively against air tech, just play defensively and get queens and spores while connecting your bases with creep.
It's a bad idea to tech straight to hydralisks because 80% of the time a protoss will get 1-2 void rays and then transition into robo tech, thus it is a good idea to play defensively with queens and react based on whether or not you scout a second stargate.
most common and easy way to kill voids is the following technique
A) Spores and queens for early aggression
B) Tech to Mutas and if you have time infestors.
C) use mutas to attack his base and pick off the voids before they can be massed in high numbers.
D) NEVER let him get a 200 food army of voids.
E) Try to destroy his economy by any means necessary to slow down his production.
F) Use your mutas and whatever other units you choose to make to keep him on 2 base while you expand multiple times.
Remember that although mutas SEEM weak against void rays, they are infact 100/100/2 supply as opposed to 250/150/3 supply.
You also have much better methods of muta production. You just need to use larvae off X amount of bases with injects. The initial costs are lair tech and a spire.
For every extra stargate for extra production a protoss makes it costs him 150/150.
p.s. don't !@#$ing necro ancient threads.
