Star Battle is a 6v6 Starcraft II UMS map that allows you to become commander of a powerful space warship and participate in a battle between Terran and Protoss warfleets. Drawing inspiration from maps like DotA, Star Battle takes the traditional gameplay to a whole new level.
The map allows you to pick up one of currently four available unique ships and command it in the battle. Each ship can be upgraded in numerous ways, increasing its firepower, defense, speed or energy and allowing player to create a vessel that reflects his style. The most important aspect of Star Battle is the team play. A sole ship is easy target for an enemy fleet, but a team helping and covering each other is almost undefeatable. A good team can save an almost dead teammate or ambush an unsuspecting enemy fleet. About the community: We have a very healthy community and bright minds working on the wiki, organizing tournaments (5 so far on EU-server, 3 on NA-server), discussing the the patches in the forums, sharing ideas how to improve the game. At the moment efforts are made to pull strings together with other strong custom map communities to take Star Battle to a higher level. Star Battle is since its launch the only by Blizzard constantly featured custom maps (on NA), the player-base is growing every day and Star Battle is always amongst the top-listed custom maps (on NA/EU). TotalBiscuit and other famous YouTube-channels have made casts about Star Battle. Personal note: Star Battle was the reason for me to leave SEA-server over a year ago. So did a reasonable amount of others as you are forced to play in teams of 6 which is way more fun to play and Star Battle has its own Teamspeak 3 server which makes it very easy to team up, creating strong tiers amongst players. Some quick basics for those who don´t want to follow the links but are still willing to try it out:
Teaming up Join the ingame chat channel "star battle". Star Battle is foremost a team game. Individual skills and game-play are triggered by finding like-minded players who want to share their abilities to pull of some crazy strategies (i.e. Vortex -Carrier- an enemy ship and afterwards launching a nuclear missile -BattleCruiser- on the poor guy in the Vortex, and much more). Visit the channel! Basic upgrading/movement Regardless what ship you like to play: Buy two speed upgrades after you spawned. Slow or not moving ships a most likely to be taken down by enemy ships. Try to always keep you ship moving - therefore speed upgrades a necessary; higher maneuverability. For all the stuff beyond this: follow the links posted by heylo here in the Thread. Official Star Battle North American Tournament 5.0 http://playstarbattle.com/forum/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=34 It's been over a year since zedu uploaded the first version of Star Battle on StarCraft II EU Battle.net. Much has changed since the beginning. Originally containing only a single ship – the Battlecruiser – the map has grown in complexity and there are now 8 unique ships to choose from, each with a myriad of abilities. More recently, player statistics and achievements were introduced. The game has enjoyed continued growth and success, and one year later it is still a front page custom game on both the EU and NA Battle.net servers, never falling far from the top. Now Star Battle is on SEA and CN servers too. Its community has expanded greatly over the past year. In addition to its original homepage, Star Battle now has a live stream channel, Twitter feed, Facebook community page, wiki page, and YouTube channel. A huge leap forward in the community development process was made possible by the dedicated Star Battle TeamSpeak 3 server hosted by avogatro. It provided a place for players – both serious and new – to meet and form strong group and community bonds. Integration increased not only across servers, but between them as well. TeamSpeak provided a medium for the exchange of ideas between the EU and NA scenes. As of now, the beginning of 2012, there are at least 12 well-established Star Battle clans and that number is continuing to rise. Large patches, small balance tweaks, and improving player skill have provided for the evolution and refinement of various, diverse tactics over the past year. Eight tournaments and one invitational event have been held on both the EU and NA servers. The number of recorded, casted, and streamed games has steadily increased, as gameplay has reached and passed the point where it's enjoyable for an audience to watch. This was demonstrated by the ‘Grandmasters of Star Battle’ show event, which had over 80 people watching the live stream at its peak.
