Have you placed already ? happy with your placement?

At the start of a new season I'm always petrified of being demoted. That being said, I got gold again so I'm very happy :D
After placement is done I like to set season goals for myself. My first goal is to unlock the 500 Protoss wins in 1v1 rewards because since I started the game I wanted a decal that wasn't the standard. At the moment im around 80 wins away. After this my goal is to either be promoted to platinum or gain enough league points to be promoted at the start of season 7. |

Going to play it now just for kicks.
Haven't played in a couple weeks and I'm sitting in bed (using my bed as mouse pad). Doesn't matter if I win or lose though. To high to be demoted, to low to make gm. So... I won... |

Nice one guys.. well, I didn't get promoted, but I wasn't expecting much. After all, I'm just started playing this game, but I'm happy that my rank tonight is definitely higher than my last season.
But like many , I play for fun, and it has always been. I've set a goal in mind too, and it such a good thing to look forward to. Keep owning guys. |

oh, I want to reach plat .. I'm not sure id the masters league is only for pros or not hehehe.
Thanks for the info, I'll be joining that channel next time I play |
oh, I want to reach plat .. I'm not sure id the masters league is only for pros or not hehehe. LOL, no. Masters = mediocre players who kind of have some idea how to play. Far from professional level players. For instance, I have played some top GM's before. I lost. Badly. Repeatedly. I once played 12 PvT's in a row vs a top terran in SEA. I lost 12 in a row. Yet, I am a "top masters" in both SEA and NA. Even with in GM, there is a large gap in the skills. Masters is a realistic target for anyone. |

You have to keep in mind that while masters compared to pro's or, as you said, top SEA GM's are "mediocre" they still represent the very top percentile of players on a server. That in itself is an amazing achievement for anyone who plays sc2. Personally I, like many other lower league players, look up to players who are masters. Thus I find your description of them as mediocre players rather insulting to those who are striving to reach that league. It implies a certain lack of skill and ability and by extension suggests that attaining it requires almost no effort when this is clearly not the case. In the end it is a matter of perspective. When comparing them to higher level players they seem mediocre. When comparing them however to the servers on which they play they represent the top percentile of players and thus should not be labelled as mediocre. |

I'm happy with my placements, though I wouldn't be surprised if I was demoted after my experience with Terran (especially with day[9] making it worse cause of his Funday Monday)
Cause it means I can go upgraded carriers every game and steamroll everything :D. |

I got to Diamond league, which I'm really happy about! The leap from Platinum to Diamond was the biggest step of any league promotion I've had in terms of difficulty. Suddenly people weren't playing generic predictable styles, and I had to think a lot about developing and fine tuning my build.
Over the next 2 seasons my goal is to get to Master league. I would say next season, but I don't think I'll have time to play enough games that fast.
I agree. It's hard work for most people to get to high leagues, even getting to Silver from Bronze took effort from me when I first started playing. Some people have inherent ability which makes the game easy for them, but most don't. There are plenty of people who play regularly who never get even close to Master level. |
I didn't say top SEA GM's are medicore. I said masters are. Top SEA GM's are borderline pro players. Some of them are pro's. For instance, moonglade has put in good showings at international tournaments. Yet, Moonglade didn't win any of the 3 tournaments of mine that he entered (he did take second once, losing to Azz in the finals). I'd say there are roughly 20-30 professional level players in the SEA community. Masters players are not even close. I have never NOT been in the top 2% of SEA. So to me it's kind of a "default". So to me, yes, it does require "no effort". Last night, I played using no hotkeys, sitting in bed, and using my bed spread as a mouse pad. Yet, I easily rolled over my opponent. Checking the replay, I had roughly 50 APM vs his 120 APM. This is what I don't understand. Why people aren't better than me as I don't consider myself remotely skilled at this game. I don't put in any effort, I just play casually. http://terranimba.com/replay/pfvWiiWcrInblo This is the game from last night. I expected to lose yet I won. I know for some people making masters seems difficult, an accomplishment. I just don't see it. Most masters players aren't that good. They only seem good because you aren't that good yourself. While this may feel insulting, it doesn't change the truth. I could simply do 1 build every game and make masters. There's a GM who made GM in both NA and EU by 6 pooling or drone rushing every game. |
Top masters = Top 8 of your division, playing GMs on occasion. If you're 'top master' NA, you would definitely be GM+ in SEA. Don't exaggerate to the children. Anyways, one of my high GM (top 16 SEA) friends told me once: 'NA Masters = free. SEA Masters is like default after placement.' Master league on both servers is pretty feeble up to a point, with NA picking up significantly over SEA in the top25/top8 range. |

This is what I don't understand. Why people aren't better than me as I don't consider myself remotely skilled at this game. I don't put in any effort, I just play casually. I happen to be quite skilled at playing piano due to inheriting the genes of several concert pianists in my family line. In my spare time I write waltzes, learn new pieces and improvise music on the spot. This all without any effort on my part. I've never had any music lessons, I taught myself to read music and how to write it (all in my spare time). This lead me to believe (falsely) that anyone can, without effort, do I what I do naturally with the piano. I realised over time however that what I can do without effort in the field of music takes others alot of hard work and effort to accomplish for most people. It is the same for you and starcraft 2. While you may falsely believe that it takes no effort to reach masters the truth is very different. You have a natural skill and affinity for starcraft 2 that many others do not posses. The fact that you reached the very top percentile of players while you played casually and occasionally
is a testament to this fact. So please see the bigger picture. Masters are in the top percentile of all players on a server. The fact that you got their without effort doesn't prove that it takes no skill. It proves that you have alot of natural skill to get their without much effort. Master league players are some of the best on any server and that in itself makes them very good players (good being defined as more skilled than the majority). On a side note: It is wrong to always measure something up to perfection. In sc2 if we measure how we play up to ideal of "perfect play" then everyone is a nub-cake. Thus we should strive for perfection in our play whilst recognising certain skill levels. In chess ratings are used to indicate skill level. Master level ratings are around 2000-2200 (FIDE Master title also being in this range) and while they are far from perfect in their play and they easily get smashed by higher level players it is generally accepted from all levels of play that anyone with a rating that high is skilled at chess. I believe we should adopt a similar way of thinking in sc2. |
Well, I have no idea how you won that looking at your hotkeys after the replay it was 1 nexus on 4, 2 warp gates on 3 and your entire army onto 1. though your multitasking was so much better than mine is, showing thats what separates the good players from the bad ones. |
Top master by rating, no. By MMR, yes. I have played vs GM's on NA. Not many times but I have. Yes, I agree with your friends assertion. Also, I have been in the top 200 list a few times. I was ranked top 100 in SEA. However, I don't play enough to make GM. So no, I am not exaggerating. |
Yeah, I tried to use hotkeys but... seriously, sometime turn off all the lights and try using your hotkeys in the dark... makes clicking much more attractive :-P I won the game because... don't know, as I said at the end of that game. He took his third faster than me. He killed a lot of my probes. I reacted to the drop that he did very poorly (fortunately, he managed the drop poorly). I made a whopping 3 colossi, 1 of which was sniped as it came out of the robo. I started upgrades kind of late. I was supply blocked almost constantly, banking over 1400 (I think?) resources at one point simply because I was supply blocked and couldn't spend it (that's when I dropped double forge and got cols). I made double tech buildings on accident (though I fortunately realized it and canceled it). Etc. I made so many mistakes in that game that I should have lost. That is how I feel in most games I played. Yet, I 1a in to his base at the end and won. |
I happen to quite skilled at playing the female sex-organ due to inheriting the genes of several certified horndogs in my family line. In my spare time I write erotic poems, learn new sextoys and improvise sexplay on the spot. This all without any effort on my part. I've never had any pervy lessons, I taught myself to read female heat patterns and how to exploit it (all in my spare time). This lead me to believe (falsely) that anyone can, without effort, do what I do naturally with my lazer-sword =D I realised over time however that what I can do without effort in the field of babymaking takes others alot of hard work and libido to accomplish for most people There....improved! =D |
