Topic detecting observer

Many players in GSL can spot where an observer is without a detector. How can they do this?

Gamesense: there's a few places where observers want to be at a given time.

Just Looking: it makes a blur, you can see it when you move your screen.

Does it work for all cloak units like DT?

Yes, every cloaked units form a ripple for the opposition when not detected.

if you watch Rainbow's stream you see him rotate the camera a lot vs Protoss just to check for stationary observers.

There is a sweet spot at the top of ramps where the stationary ripple disappears :)

I believe it even works for burrowed units too. Such as borrowed moving Roaches. Though I think it's harder to notice than cloak. :S

Most common places for a observer to be placed would be near your mineral line, expansion,or where your units are gathered at.

It gives people a chance with Infestors or Ghosts to Fungal/EMP the area to reveal the cloaked unit. Roaches and infestors can be seen as a slightly darkened circle moving across the battlefield. Only when moving I think, not when stationery.

lower graphics settings allows you to see the ripple much easier aswell, on lower settings the burrowed movement is alot more visible too. a quick mouse wheel down and up on spots where obs often hang out and you should notice a ripple stand out

I suppose you don't count burrowed units as cloaked then..

Burrowed units leave a dark trail on the ground where they are located.

They leave a dark trail on the ground,it's very hard to detect, but when you know how to detect it,burrowed units won't effect you anymore.

You need to have special effects/ effects on at least high or you will always have a lot of trouble spotting anything invisible.
