Battlecruisers in TvP
|
Hey,
I was thinking about the viability of Battlecruisers in TvP. Not so much as an all-in CHECK MY BATTLECRUISERS LOLOL tactic, or a mass Battlecruiser army. More so, the general TvP composition with a couple of Battlecruisers supporting. I figure, if you get Battlecruisers up and running (2-3 of them) on 2 base or so, you will force the Toss to either get a lot more stalkers and/or Void Rays thus limiting Colossus or High Templar production. If this is the case, Marines, Marauders and Medivacs should be able to chew through the ground army. I'm sure a lot of protoss players would overcompensate in "countering" the battlecruisers, which will give you the ground advantage. If the Protoss is smart, and doesn't overcompensate and still gets a decent deathball consisting of coloss and the rest of it, you can Yamato the colossus as an alternative to viking production. Once the yamatos go off, you still have a stupidly strong unit instead of having vikings floating around doing a lot of nothing. Just throwing my thoughts out there, if anyone's attempted this or has had experience against this let me know! I'll be giving it a shot on ladder eventually. Thanks! |

You won't manage to get a single Yamato shot off against a decent Protoss because all of the Battlecruisers will be feedbacked. From there the stalkers he has in his army anyway will be enough to kill them all. The only way this could work is if you get enough Ghosts to Feedback all of the High Templar before they get any Feedbacks off then snipe the colossi with Yamato. I think that Thors could actually do this job better with 250mm strike cannons: ensure no HTs can feedback them and then use 250mm cannons on all the colossi to fully deny the Protoss any AoE attacks. Either of these options are very gas expensive however, and require you to quickly EMP all of the high templar.
EDIT: Despite sounding negative about this, definitely upload a replay if it works. I'd love to see this, if anything so that Terrans will stop complaining about their lack of lategame options. |

Ah yes, good point. Somehow I completely forgot about the potential of Feedback. I've never really seen 250mm Strike Cannons used. Definitely should give them a shot. Yamato would outrange the HT though yes? You'd have to have a nice attacking angle from high ground or something - much like having a good angle to engage with your vikings is preferred.
Plus, I was more thinking about this being a threatening composition earlier in the game than I think you're thinking. Protoss generally won't have the gas for both Colossus and High templar, there will be a vulnerable point where they only have one or the other. And if that one is Colossus, I imagine this would be quite effective. |

No, feedback is longer range than Yamato, plus Yamato has a 3 second delay before it fires.
That seems reasonable in theory, but most Protoss will have scouted you well before 10 minutes into the game with an observer regardless of their build, and have time to counter the Battlecruisers. |
