So microsoft decided to screw me with that "your copy of windows is not genuine" crap... I had my control panel open to check which version of windows I have and was looking at my system rating, which was sitting @ 5.8
anyway I got sick of the black background telling me that my windows was not genuine and found a random background site... downloaded this one of Barney (how I met your mother) http://wallbase.cc/wallpaper/611214 "When I'm sad I stop being sad and be awesome instead" Quickly DL it and make it my background to see if my background had been frozen on the black screen... Anyway, the background works, and my system rating pops up to 5.9........... L o L. |

If you weren't blatantly lying it might be considered funny

._. It can be disabled with several different programs. Just be careful on what your "Windows Update" settings are set at, it should always be set to something like 'never download updates'. It didn't really get in the way of anything. This is just pure ignorance, if the problem is fixable, fix it, don't accept it. |
I was really busy. When I got time, I reinstalled off my official copy. If I had rushed to reinstall right away it would have interrupted my ability to use my computer for a couple of days while I sorted it out. What's the issue? |
oh...you know langford =D If you are not perfect then you have an issue =D |
You can upgrade your legit version of windows 7 with microsoft anytime upgrade. Just get the key from google. And even after the "legit" upgrade microsoft still thinks its genuine. Plus you can change your system rating just by changing the xml file in the system folder. :) |

Everyone should just stop playing games on windows, and play them all in windows emulators on linux and put with up the performance drop. Then eventually game companies might start releasing games on linux. That or we have to play games at only 40fps for the rest of our lives lol.

I couldn't find an emulator which supports directx 10. Also, Linux is a very hard platform to deploy to because each install is so different. |
This is true. I don't think one does exist yet :( It's not too hard to deploy to. I'm in the process of creating an Indie game that can easily be installed on most versions of linux, windows and mac OS. If some of the cool opensource programmers got together and wrote a nice high powered 3d graphics library (better than opengl) designed specifically for linux we could have games on linux :) but this will probably never happen :( However valve has announced steam is coming for linux which is a step in the right direction :D |
This is true. I don't think one does exist yet :( I developed a game for linux (an FPS game using jmonkeyengine for java) and found that it was a good deal harder to deploy, in that some people would have problems getting it to work on their machine until I or one of the other collaborators gave them some help. I could see it working out if linux became mainstream, but it's still too hard to use to get there. Also, companies aren't going to put thousands of man-hours into designing a 3d engine that can perform as well or better than directx unless linux can get to a large marketshare. Even macs barely get any games because they're only 10% of the market. I don't question that it's possible, but unless some boss opensource devs make some top-notch software for free I'm not seeing it any time soon. |
