Channel for new players - Noobschool
|
Edited by Neblime on 11/5/12 3:57 AM (PST)
Hey guys, i just realised how many bronzes i've been coaching recently and thought it would be cool to all hang out and one channel. So I decided i should make the channel noobschool and publicize it! So basically this channel is all about practice and improving your game, but it's more about higher level players teaching lower level players than equal level players playing each other.
So if you're new and want some advice or coaching, or if you're a veteran who wants to share knowledge come along! Players new to sc2 are very welcome! BTW before anyone says this is like pracbud, like I said I want it to be about higher level players coaching lower level players not equal level players facing off. Also pracbud is kinda scary with all the GMs hanging around in it 0_o |
Sounds exactly like pracbud.
IT'S A TRAP! But really i've helped a lot of people in that channel who are in a lower league than me over the long run... also calling it noobschool is kinda bm. |
Haha all the GM's were new to RTS games at some point and there not exactly scary, except Aquitas >.< This is an example of this, I remember late 2010/ early 2011 Aquitas was a true blue newbie, and a nice guy as well... sadly as he increased gaming commitment and progressed, he's really turned into a real a$$hole. |

PRACBUD is more of an ask-for-a-game-and-get-no-reply channel now rather than a helpful, friendly channel. I like your idea Neblime :) Might be hard to start the channel off at first though. |
Why did you selectively read my post? I've gone about helping a lot of people in that channel, and so have others to newcomers. |
well.. idk when i was in bronze i knew i was a noob... if you have a problem with being called noob, fine start your own channel called begginerschool. Posted by Neblime Idk pracbud seems to me like a channel were you vs people of equal skill although gms always want to play.. |

I'm in your league, I know i'm not even that far above average, but you happen to think you are, good luck with your channel, I won't be visiting.
Indeed, GM's aren't going to coach for free, unless you personally know them. |
That's not what i meant at all, and where did i say that i don't call myself noob. I always see people with ~200 wins in diamond and wonder what's wrong with me. Sorry for wording my comment that way i really didn't mean to call you noob. ;_;
I just meant playing random games and crushing people in lower leagues. |

Sorry for wording my comment that way i really didn't mean to call you noob. ;_; In that case I apologise, just difficult to tell tone when you read, also a lot of people in these forums enjoy hiding double meanings seeded with negative connotation towards me. People in these forums are terribly ego driven. Again, sorry :( |
Most helpful guy on SEA.
They all turn out that way though, clans start with noobs and the hardcores stay and improve whilst the casuals or short term move on and play D3 >.< But seriously even I have stopped helping people out as much, I've got tired of saying the same ting over and over to players who try and reinvent the wheel. "No 7 gates off 1 base is 2 much, you cant afford it" |

It sounds exactly like PRACBUD... 15 months ago. =P
Never really ended up that way though. =P Still, hopefully people might come into this channel. It would be nice for PRACBUD to effectively have a second run of what it originally was.

I was never there at that time, these days it just seems like you sit in there until someone asks for a game. Or you ask people in there for a game, people of equal level usually. |

Originally it was just a group of people who constantly practiced together... Not that way anymore, haha.

I would definitely be happy to come and help out. Actually I'm in now.

This does highlight a problem in the game though.
This post does highlight a pretty big problem with SC2 in terms of it's social side of the game. When you first get the game there are very high barriers of entry to become a member of the wider community. You start off an absolute scrub and you end up knowing it fast. If you have no friends you sit in the LFG channel where you learn nothing and think this is everyone. Then a player will go to the ladder and strait into the dirt league making them feel like a failure. If you ask anyone for advice people say go watch Husky or Day 9 or TL, all 3rd party resources that are not great at an introductory level. Unranked matches and arcade mode are a start but in all honesty a guild / clan system is needed here pronto, just like there is for WOW. You had guilds made up of lower level players running around together chatting and slowly getting better whilst having fun. This chat channel represents a new guild in some respects but I don't even know how many new players even come here and it took me ages to find out about PRACBUD and other chat channels. All this information and resources really should be in the in-game UI. Also I think it's beyond stupid that pro players need to purchase a new account every time they change teams or regions. End rant. |
I find it's not too hard to get a game if you ask a couple of times. From there, just play 5-10 games with the same person.
Heaps of people have second accounts. Another factor is that many people spend a lot of time watching streams and playing customs rather than laddering. I got Diamond off of just over 100 1v1 ladder wins but had played many customs and watched so many pro games/day9 episodes.
That's pretty much what the mGG channel is now. We often get games going with 5 or more spectators at once, and there's almost always chatter in the channel. This does highlight a problem in the game though. Honestly I got a huge amount of help from various players just from playing custom games on xel'naga caverns before i'd even bought the game. I'd lose, then ask what I did wrong, get advice etc. etc. Then later through these forums I found out about pracbud and mGG and sc2sea.com. |

obviously the point of this channel was to teach new players, but not many of them find their way to the forums =( do you guys offer replay analyse? i can see the cons in that from being bombarded with !@#$ nooby replays and %^-*. but that would be really awesome. -edit- inb4 its an in-game chat channel. yeh nah if you want to make regulars, eventually they're gonna ask if they've been improving hence WATCH MY REPLAYS PLOX! |
