StarCraft® II

StarCraft II Editor Questions

(Sticky)

I have done about 6 hours of research and a million Google searches, so if someone can please tell me what GATEWAY_DOWN is supposed to me that would be appreciated. I have a simple map with no units or custom anything and a simple unique name that doesn't conflict and I don't have any errors on the left side of the screen ("publish document" window)before proceeding to the upload/publish progress screen("file transfers" window). I have tried every variant possible with dependencies, and nothing gets it to complete. It has uploaded even up to 100% a few times and it still suddenly says FAILED, and GATEWAY_DOWN.

Very strange and frustrating issue. I would just as well have someone help me to login and publish my map for me!

Thanks community!

P.S. - I don't have any virus/security software installed/running, my computer is Windows 7 and I don't think there is a firewall blocking the transmission as I'm able to play online again people and download Blizzard maps and login. I'm also directly connected to my cable modem.

It was because the server was going through a patch update. That will be the most likely reason why.

How to rotate a model to up-side-down?
I tried it with Variance Rotation but it was bugged, the angle different each time I test the map, sometimes it keep changing the angle while in the game.

Thanks for your replay AvenKa!

I have been trying every night before and after I play online. I still get the same error with all my maps I try to upload, and the size is small and saved in the small format too. I really don't know what to do to get it to work and let me publish my maps.

Thanks community!

Sounds like it might be something wrong with your account or connection, might want to get in touch with tech support.

Q. When using a leaderboard that is set up with groups, and the groups have a series of rows in them, how do you set up sorting, so it will sort the rows for each group?

Q. How do you use the actor event action - Customize Portrait, to allow you to dynamically change a portrait of a unit? Examples through both the data editor and the use of the trigger send actor message action would be really great!

Actually I just called tech support and of course the agent reminded me that Blizzard doesn't provide any support for the editor in anyway. However, the agent did look into my account and the related settings I have registered with and found no errors. I still don't know what could be going on here that doesn't allow me to publish when everything seems completely correct.

Any other suggestions community?

Thanks community!

I heard a rumor of something that you are releasing something called StarTools, is this true?
(if so)
Will it be free?
How will it help players?

How did you install Starcraft 2? What region version do you have? Did you get the download or hard-copy version of Starcraft 2.

Did you make the map you're having trouble with, yourself? Or did you get it from someone else or the web?

Thanks Icey!

Your truly a great and a supportive community member~!

My version of SC2 is a legitimate hard copy in South East Asia version, I chose this version since USA region is free to add later, and I live in Hong Kong and want to get access to gamers in my local region. I did make the map myself, but I have even tried renaming (and changing all map info and descriptions) and republishing a blizzard map privately - without success. During my last conversation with the Blizzard tech agent, she told me that the map editor (I think AKA GalaxyEditor?) is coded and locked to work with whatever account I login to when publishing, so there can't be any error in publishing to a different region I'm not registered with.

However, under File->Preferences->Battle.net the region drop down box contains only (Deafult); Americas; and Oceanic. Furthermore, in the "Publish Document" window on the right side of the window under the heading "Locale:" the drop down box states "English (US) <enUS>" which I think is just a reference to the target language rather then the actual region assigned to be published in; yet I still I cant modify that box either.

Your continued support is greatly appreciated!

Hmmmm, well I'm at a loss if you have an SEA version of the game, and made your own map. I noticed people running into the issues you have when they import there own sound files to there map, or are trying to publish a map that was created in another region.

This one is another possibility - Were you in the beta for Starcraft 2 perhaps? If so did you properly uninstall the beta before installing the retail version of Starcraft 2?

These are probably long shots because you said you encountered the same issue uploading other maps, but what dependencies does your map use? Does your map have Game Variants set up? If so, did you use the default ones or create your own? Did you import any files to your map? Under player info what kind of settings do you have (sometimes certain settings here can cause issues with the game variants and cause your publish to fail)? Have you played around with the team placement at all (another areas that certain settings can cause issues)? Have you got enough starting points set up for your map for each player? Do you have map info filled out correctly (sometimes if you miss a box that can cause issues)?

Would you be open to uploading the map onto the web for say me or someone else to try uploading, just to check if the issue is just on your end? Do you have any security software on your computer that you could temporarily turn off to see if that might help? Another long shot but maybe your ISP is blocking it and you could get in touch with them about it just to check if its getting sent through ok?

Would you like to try uploading a quick map I make just to see if that works?

Sorry I know that's a great deal of questions, but this definitely is a tricky one, and I'm trying to think of every possibility. I hope a blizzard staff member might be able to help :)

I'm going to try a look into a few of your suggestions as soon as I can, I'm going to be busy for the next few days, I will get back to you. As for your offer to try and publish the map I'm open to that route too, just let me get back to you once I've tried your suggestions first.

Thanks again Icey!

I'm still open to any other suggestions from the rest of the community !

Thanks community!

Q1: is there a way to search this thread specifically to see if your question has already been posted.

Q2: Is there any way to edit foot prints, or more specifically remove them?

Yeah, remove is easy, just go to the unit tab, for the structure or object in question, and in the fields for footprints which are located in movement in table view, just select none. Mobile unit's like marines etc don't really seem to use footprints and instead use a collision system which is also based around those movement fields.

Editing a footprint you double click the footprint field and then click view and it'll take you to the relevant footprint in the footprints tab and you can play around with it there.

Not intentionally trying to double post here, guess it's hard with a slow forum though lol, but I noticed something from the answers that were just recently posted.

What's the point behind this thread and its twin on the EU forum if the only questions they answer are, unless I'm mistaken, from the US site? And for all intents and purposes they've gone through what, 4-5 rounds of answering questions on the US site, and we're yet to get 1? *feels left out*

I do agree with Icey. It's kinda like you guys don't really support the modding scene down at our server >.>.

1)How do i make an upgrade for a bunker which gives only that bunker a shrike turret. hopefully i can put it on the command card of the bunker and not on a different building. I've noticed something like it in Overrun(by Raingame) where you can upgrade the bunker to a "super bunker" which has more hp, armour, etc.

2)How do you make an upgrade of your own: im planning to make an upgrade(from the engineering bay) for bunkers to have increased life. However, if there is a way, i need to make it affect the normal bunkers and the ones with shrike turrets.

PS- I have added liberty campaign and story mode into my dependencies already, and am using the firebat and medic and they work fine.

also remembered some other issues ive had.
1-(this is probably really simple to solve) In my map there are 7 players on one team
(team 1) and the eighth is on its own(team 2). I want to make it appear so that in the lobby you can clearly see what team you will be on. What i mean is for it to say "Team 1" and have 7 slots under and "Team 2" with 1 slot. btw I have played with what players are AI controlled, player controlled and neutral already and i believe they are working.

Also im wondering- in the lobby of games the host has the ability of moving players to different teams/slots.
I am hoping to make it so that each player gets to choose if he/she wants to be the undead (the eighth player) or a survivor (player 1-7, team 1). Is it possible or should i just suggest to blizzard that you can move yourself to different teams/slots in the lobby of games rather then the host, as the host is randomly chosen due to this "popularity" method of game finding.(i found not being able to move rather annoying after the SC1 battlenet freedom)

I've forgotten the other problems but i hope i'll find a solution to them too!

PS: if you have played starcraft 1 online and have played a UMS custom game called Undead you will know what game im talking about(and trying to re-create, as i was a big fan of it :D)

You set this up in Game Variants, that's your goto place for lobby setup. What you want to do is create a mode for your games lobby that has the setup you mention. If you don't know how it works click the generate defaults button which will generate 1v1/2v2/playervsai modes all setup based on the default melee setups, they'll give you an idea of how to set yours up. Delete them after you've finished viewing a few & getting an idea, then create your own and give it a name, after you've finished setting yours up make sure to right click it in the list and select Default, so the mode you created is always the one the lobby defers to as default when people create or join your game.

When playing around with Game Variants, it is good to know that you should never ever set multiple players to be the same colour, that will prevent people from joining your games lobby because each person must have a unique colour in the lobby.

Also im wondering- in the lobby of games the host has the ability of moving players to different teams/slots.

I can't recall, but can you do this on battle.net currently when you join a map? Because if you can't I'm pretty sure you aren't able to do it at the moment, and you should indeed poke Blizzard about it. But in saying that....there might be a setting in Game Attributes which is a section that lets you further refine the Game Variants modes, that might allow you to do that.
